Wilderness Watercolor Camp Alaska, August 1-7 2020

Wilderness Watercolor Camp Alaska, August 1-7 2020

Backpack Alaska has teamed up with Nikki Frumkin of Drawn to High Places to explore and capture the beauty of the mountains with watercolors.

Much like backpacking, watercolor takes creativity, the spirit of adventure, and often takes you somewhere different than you originally envisioned.

Fly into the Talkeetna Mountains with us for a week of true wilderness, surround yourself with some badass women and expand your artistic abilities. We will explore the wild and record our experience through watercolor on this backpacking trip for women.

Itinerary

  • July 31: Make your way to Anchorage on your own schedule. That evening, Nikki, alongside your guide(s), will meet with you before departure to double check your gear, go over the itinerary, and answer any lingering questions you may have regarding the trip.

August 1: We will leave Anchorage early in the morning to start our adventure. Once in Talkeetna we will meet our pilot and prepare for departure. After packing our gear into the plane we will lift off and head into the wilderness!
*transport to Talkeetna, lunch and dinner included

August 2-5: We will work our way over mountain passes, scree slopes, play in alpine lakes, and enjoy the silence (punctuated with laughter). Our guides have years of experience in the wilderness of Alaska and want to share their hard earned knowledge with YOU.

Our trip will focus on capturing both what the landscape feels like and what it looks like to create art that tells a powerful story of your adventure.

Our mornings will start with an art prompt to guide us through our day. These prompts will serve as a jumping off point for group art instruction as well as independent work time. Each day will offer time for group instruction and well as moments for solo painting and practicing. Nikki will spend one on one time with every participant.
    *all meals included

August 6: After coffee and breakfast we will prepare for departure and soak up the last bit of wilderness. All too soon the drone of the airplane engine will prep us to re-enter the life we left and we will fly back to Talkeetna.
    *breakfast and cabin accommodations included

August 7: Our trip has come to an end, likely too soon. We will provide transport back to Anchorage or, you can take some extra time to explore Talkeetna or go off to your next adventure! Maybe with some of the women you met on your trip!

*As with all BA trips we strive to stick to our itinerary as best as possible but ask our clients to remain open to the possibility of change. The state is large, the weather is unpredictable, and the regions we endeavor to reach are remote. With that in mind please read the above itinerary as a rough outline of what to expect but be prepared for the unknown. More on this under Bush Flying 101.
